WW2D “what would 2pac do” is how I live my life. All my philosophy and life decisions ultimately are derived from my predictions of what 2pac would do if he were me. Since we share so much in common, specifically our upbringing, I feel his lyrical content relates best. Right now I’m living in Shanghai, enjoying the fine air quality and constant construction, vibing to the natural sounds of spitting and coughing, and just relaxing to the pulse of people shoving me in the subway and lines. Just joking, I love Shanghai, love China, and I have a deep appreciation for all things. 25 from NY, BA in Political Science, any other stats you need to know are irrelevant.

Hey ya’ll. Baby Francesca is the name. I’m your typical Hangzhou girl living and working in Shanghai. My boyfriend, Z-San (I gave him that name), is forcing me to participate in this SHlaowai blog even though I am NOT a 老外. But I guess I have some interesting views given the fact that I’m living with, and taking care of, two barely functional 犹太人. I’ll try to keep this blog honest and share my views whenever I can.

These are a few of my favorite things: Lord of the Rings, Jay-Z, food, celebrity gossip, books, pens that write well and TV. I also love a good mountain. I’m the Dragon reborn, formerly known as Lews Therin Telamon. JK, I’m more of a Mat Cauthon. I have a passion for fantasy, especially anime and Western lore and legend (i.e. elves, wizards and shit) . Favorite forms of exercise include: blazing the chronic + soccer, blazing the chronic+yoga/interpretive stretching, blazin the chriz-onic + Nintendo, and so on. I generally do not eat alot of breads or whole grain foods but prefer to get sugars and carbs from rice, candy and chocolate. I am 25, from Texas and have a BA in Chinese. Currently working in Shanghai.

I have a thing for these things: liberal politics, history of the transatlantic slave trade, selvedge denim, pop culture (good and “bad”), yoga, big blockbuster movies, white sneakers turned off-white and tiger-style kung fu. I also enjoy a good gin drink from time to time. I’m from a little town in the US called New York City, maybe you know it? If I went to Hogwarts, I’d probably be a Gryffindor. Merkforce Delta, Ph.D, is deeply inspired by irreverence and percussion. He is thoroughly disgusted by any/all commentary relating to the fallacious idea of making Gremlins into a trilogy, and has vowed to “completely raze” a small village if it’s made using CGI. MKFD thrives in musical environments and allegedly dabbles in Shanghai’s rock scene, which he refers to as “vibrant despite being bogged down by and held to the standards of musically-mediocre round-eye bastards and their self-centric albeit publicized opinions.” Of all the contributors to this website, Merkforce Delta, Ph.D, is the only one boasting an academic endorsement to speak with authority about things which he has absolutely no authority to speak about.

With a major in “I don’t know what I want to do with my life” and a minor in “I only had to take 6 classes to get it”, I moved to China in 2007 to pick up my Asia journey right where I’d left it in 2001 (kicking and screaming while being dragged from my sheltered expat life in HK). Though seemingly birthed from the very loins of California, my heart has always remained in Asia, and has brought me to this very blog. As one of the sole female laowai on the panel, I see this as my opportunity to offer the uninhibited-but-slightly-hibited female perspective on being an “old outsider” in Shanghai. Challenge – wait for iiit…accepted.
